Republican Sen. Tim Scott of South Carolina has endorsed former Rep. Mike Rogers of Michigan in the GOP Senate primary race to succeed Sen. Debbie Stabenow, a Democrat who is not seeking re-election. Rogers, a former House Intelligence Committee chair and Army veteran, has also received endorsements from the National Republican Senatorial Committee, former President Donald Trump, seven other Republican senators, and other notable figures. The primary race in Michigan also includes wealthy businessman Sandy Pensler, former Rep. Justin Amash, and others, with the primary scheduled for August 6.

Scott’s endorsement of Rogers marks his first formal endorsement in a Senate race this election cycle. Scott, who is the only Black Republican in the Senate, is a popular and influential figure in the GOP. He ran for the 2024 GOP presidential nomination and has strong ties with leading figures in the party’s donor class. Scott has been active in fundraising for his own campaign as well as for other Republican candidates. In the 2022 cycle, he raised nearly $1 million for other candidates and donated over $1 million to down-ballot races.

Republicans are aiming to flip several Senate seats from blue to red in the upcoming elections to regain the majority they lost in 2020. Rogers, who is leading in the polls, has focused his campaign on working with President Trump to help Michigan families, lower the cost of living, and secure the southern border. Although Scott has endorsed Rogers, the primary race in Michigan also includes other candidates like Pensler and Amash, creating a potentially competitive and costly race. Former Detroit police chief James Craig, who recently ended his own Senate nomination bid, has also endorsed Rogers.

In his endorsement of Rogers, Scott praised his commitment to service and putting the American people first. He described Rogers as a leader who delivered results and fought to expand opportunities for working families and those pursuing the American Dream. Rogers, a former FBI special agent, has a strong background in national security and intelligence, positioning him well for a role in the Senate. With the support of key Republican figures and endorsements from high-profile individuals, Rogers is a front-runner in the Michigan Senate primary.

As they work to win a Senate election in Michigan for the first time in three decades, Republicans are hoping to secure key battleground states like Michigan in their bid to regain the Senate majority. Scott’s endorsement of Rogers reflects his support for candidates who align with conservative values and prioritize the needs of American families. With the primary approaching in August, the race in Michigan is heating up as candidates like Rogers, Pensler, and Amash vie for the Republican nomination. Scott’s endorsement could boost Rogers’ chances of securing the nomination and ultimately winning the seat in the autumn elections.
